Hurricane Irene

Hello Certizens,

Hurricane Irene is approaching and we all should be preparing.
Does everyone have their disaster kit in order?

Also, for those who have had CERT training, review your training notes and be ready to respond in your neighborhood. If you have an emergency in your community, please call 911 and only utilize the training you have received. Remember, your safety is always first! Thank you again for your dedication to your community, especially in times like these.

For those who are CERT trained and are designated Points of Contact (POCs), be prepared to help on a more widespread basis if necessary. We will contact you if and when the need arises.

For those who have not taken CERT training yet, THIS is the reason we train. So you can help your neighbors if they need it after an event like a hurricane or a tornado. Please sign up for the Basic CERT class at http://rwcert.org so you can help if and when the next hurricane strikes.

Stay safe!

Sincerely,

Akil

Fwd: Community Emergency Response Team Class # 8

Wow, did you feel the small quake? This email was sent to me at 12:59pm. Please let me know if anyone is interested in being a part a LGBTQ CERT Team.

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: CERT Secretary
Date: Tue, Aug 23, 2011 at 12:59 PM
Subject: Community Emergency Response Team Class # 8
To: akil@triangleblackpride.org

Good afternoon Mr. Campbell, I trust this email finds you well.

I want to reach out to you in regards to a couple of subject matters.

1) May 5th of 2011, you had sent out an email correspondence regarding a
meeting with Shades of Pride and LGBTQ. I was wondering if anything ever became of that?
We are still open to meeting with all of you.

2) In regards to the above communication, we are having a new CERT Basic
training class and would like to invite you and your associated groups to
join our training session.  With this training, you will be certified to
participate within any CERT organization throughout the NC area as well as
the United States as they have revised training so that ALL CERT members
have the same training.

I have attached two documents that you will need to complete, if you and a
group are interested, we would be happy to have you join us.  Our class is
limited to 20, we have room open for 10 participants.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me and I hope
that you are able to participate.

Have a great day.

Regards,

Olivia

We Are Members of This Community - STD Educational Awareness Project

We Are Members of This Community

Check out this educational awareness project about HIV/STDs for gay men, and men who don't identify as gay, but have sex with men.  Wake County HIV/STD Community Program and the LGBT Center of Raleigh have formed a community partnership to deliver safer sex and STD prevention information in an easily accessible format via an internet website for Men who have Sex with Men (MSM).  This website is needed because HIV incidence is rising steadily among gay men.
·        In the latest year in the United States, 77 percent of new HIV infections occurred in men, 61 percent in MSM.
·        The NC Epidemiological Profile Report also indicates that MSM activity in North Carolina accounted for 74% of all new adult/adolescent HIV disease, representing a 24 percent increase from 2004 to 2008.  The breakdown of the new HIV cases by age group shows an alarming 89% of adolescent male age 13-24 years was associated with MSM activity.
This educational awareness project, "We Are Members Of This Community", includes information on HIV in both English and Spanish.  There is also information on safer sex practices, symptoms of various sexually transmitted diseases, videos about STD's in Wake County and other important information including counseling and testing locations and condom distribution sites.  There is a section devoted to parents of gay sons which includes videos made by parents whose children are gay and HIV positive telling other parents how important it is to accept and love their children in the face of HIV and AIDS.  This website is mobile friendly so people can access the information from their cell phone devices.
