I guess I really hit a nerve with my post on the homeless encampment evacuation in Garner. 181 of you took the time to respond. Just as a social experiment, I counted the responses and placed them in either a positive or negative column. 55% of you were completely negative about the encampment, homeless people in general, efforts to alleviate homeless through government intervention or the programs in place to try to help. Of the negative comments, 11% were just plain mean to be mean. Shame on you. 45% of you had positive comments about the plight of the homeless, the hope that programs can help or the admission that some homeless people can do little to better their situation on their own. There were 13 comments that actually offered helpful, thoughtful advice. 9% of you just wanted to strike back at me.
