Sunday June 12, 2011 7pm

Make plans now to be at Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh's Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts as TGMC and the Common Woman Chorus present the Triangle area premiere performance of "A Proclamation of Hope- featuring Sing for the Cure".

Sing for the Cure is the world-renowned song cycle with orchestra which honors the lives of breast cancer survivors, the memory of those lost to the disease, and the loved ones affected by it. Read more.

The net proceeds of this concert will be shared equally by the choruses and Susan G. Komen For the Cure NC- Triangle, the local affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the world leader in the fight against breast cancer.

WRAL-TV News anchors David Crabtree and Debra Morgan will serve as narrators in this performance.

Sing for the Cure ,
an uplifting and positive musical experience, tells the stories of breast cancer survivors, their families and friends.

This world-renowned choral work with orchestra and narration has moved and delighted thousands with its examination of the fears, trials, and even the humor of
dealing with breast cancer.

An emotionally charged and powerful work, it was commissioned in 2000 by Susan G. Komen for the Cure® as a result of founder and CEO Nancy Brinker's belief that more people would listen to the message if it was delivered through the powerful
medium of music.

Sing for the Cure had its world premiere in June 2000 and featured poet laureate Maya Angelou as narrator.

Today, Sing for the Cure's universal message of hope continues to transcend cultural, language, and political barriers even as a cure is still being sought.

The Common Woman Chorus

TGMC is honored to be partnering with our sisters in song, the Common Woman Chorus to present "Sing for the Cure" to the Triangle.
The Common Woman Chorus (CWC) began in 1983 as a feminist chorus and evolved into a woman-positive choral community that celebrates all lifestyles and gender identities. The group's repertoire emphasizes the personal and political struggles of women while affirming the integrity and inherent worth of each of us.
Through the medium of music, the Chorus celebrates heroes, reflects on the personal and political struggles of women and the disenfranchised, and honors creation, creativity, and song.

The name of the chorus is derived from a Judy Grahn poem that reads, in part, "a common woman is as common as a common
loaf of bread . . . and will rise."
